How Do You Define Love?

Love and Blue Skies

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and what better way to celebrate than to celebrate the word, LOVE.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines love as:

a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person

But is that the only definition? The word “love” means something different to everyone, and I decided to ask some of my favorite blogging gals how they define love.

“To me, love is finding someone that compliments you perfectly. For me, that is the person who eats the orange and green Skittles (Because I’m more of a red/purple/yellow kinda gal). Love is when you know that no matter what, for the rest of your life, you want to spend your time with that person. That even when they drive you crazy, you know you’d rather not be driven anywhere else.”

“Love is a powerful connection between souls. Love is waking up next to a man that loves me just as I am. Love is cuddling with my babies on a cold winter morning. Love is holding my Dad’s hand as we sit in the hospital waiting room. Love is my heart’s way of communicating with the world.”

“Love is the best thing in the world. Love is security. Love is a comfort. Love is knowing you can be you without any conditions, restraints or confusion. Love is forgiving and unfailing. It’s consuming. Love is an unconditional commitment to walk with someone else. It’s the best thing in the world.”

“My love for my husband has always been strong…He was only my second boyfriend ever. But this past year, we had our first baby and now watching him care for me and the baby makes me love him in a whole new way. How lucky am I?”

“Love is strange. Sometimes you just can’t explain it. Love is a bond you only feel when you’re around your person. Love makes you feel taken, secure, content and special. Love motivates and drives you to do things you never would otherwise. Love is mature in actions, words and deeds. Love is sometimes sitting together in silence, just enjoying being together. Love is being idiots together and not caring what others think. Love is people asking when they look at us in 50 years: “Did that old couple just start dating?” Love is beautiful and timeless.”

“I think love is something indescribable. Whenever you try to put into word something so pure and magical it just fades away. So in my opinion, it is an amazing feeling that can’t be put into words.”

“I define love as the feeling someone feels when they get to spend meaningful times with parents and friends. Love is when I get to spend time with the people I truly care about.”

“Love is truly, whole-heartedly being happy and content. It isn’t always with someone else but sometimes it’s as simple as loving yourself. Knowing, accepting and embracing flaws. Committing 100% to growing and evolving into a better person as an individual or as a couple. Sometimes love is sacrificing your own wants for the betterment of another, sometimes yourself too. Having faith in the goodness of ourselves, family & trusted friends is love. Love is flexible and changes throughout our lives. We love and express our love for each person in our lives differently. Pure love is a positive force that can make us all happier if we open up and embrace it.”

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
