Restaurant of the Week: Vulcano 081

Last week, my husband and I tried Vulcano 081 in Rockville Centre for dinner. A relatively new establishment, this authentic wood fired pizza place has definitely been on our list for awhile. I found out the owners named the restaurant after the Naples’ area code and the gold-tiled oven, which was imported from Italy, runs solely on wood.

We started off with their Suppli, which is a Roman style riceball with risotto, pork, and Pomodoro sauce. It was everything a rice ball should be and more. Steaming hot, perfectly seasoned, they literally melted in your mouth.

Is there seriously anything better than Truffle Fries? I didn’t think so. These were off the charts. My husband compared them to those at Lavo in NYC. They were crispy and delicious and exactly what they should be. French fries with Truffle oil and parmigiano. Simple yet full of flavor.

We tried one of their chef specialty pizzas for dinner, the Vodka Pizza. Crumbled sausage, pickled onions, mozzarella and vodka sauce over a crispy crust, I was in love. I almost ate the entire pie by myself!

My husband loves the more traditional type of pizzas, so he tried the Margherita D.O.P. Pizza with Tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and basil. When I saw only one slice left on the plate, I knew it had to be tasty!

Vulcano 081 is open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week. They are conveniently located near the Rockville Centre train station. They also boast a great size bar for some after-work cocktails. If you are looking for a light bite to eat, stop by Vulcano 081 and check them out!
